GIM Trainings

Ginger offers AMI-approved trainings in both English and Spanish to form practitioners of GIM. In order to enter the training, students must have at least a Bachelorís or Licenciatura degree in music or psychology, or a related field. Each training program lasts two to three years, with class meetings in quarterly seminars that span four or five days. Students in Level I receive a theoretical and experiential introduction to the Bonny Method, which is amplified in Level II. Level III consists of various intensive seminars, all of which require extensive homework, including writing reports on books about such topics as transpersonal psychology, music, psychopathology, mythology, and archetypes; analyzing various classical music programs; entering into oneís own psychotherapeutic process in sessions of GIM; as well as practicing and receiving supervision while facilitating GIM sessions with non-paying, relatively healthy clients.

The complete training costs several thousand US dollars. Graduates may become Fellows of the Association for Music and Imagery (AMI), charging competitive fees for leading GIM group workshops and/or offering individual GIM sessions to clients. (Further training is required for AMI Fellows who wish to become GIM supervisors or Primary Trainers, with credentials to offer AMI-endorsed GIM trainings themselves).

Current GIM Training Schedule
Starting in July of 2011, Ginger is conducting in Spanish a GIM training, sponsored by the Institute for Music, Art and Process (MAP) in Vitoria, in the Basque Country of Spain. Psychologist Esperanza Torres is the MAP Institute organizer of this GIM training. For information about the cost and site of the seminars, contact Esperanza at
